Quilters are Going Crazy for these Unique Hand Dyed Fabrics
A small startup called “Festus Fabrics” is changing up the world of quilting.
Created by duo Alex Collins + Courtney Cooper, the couple aims to bring high quality small batch, & hand dyed textiles to the market. They currently offer hand dyed Kona Cotton by the yard, or fat quarter, as well as bamboo socks and bandanas.
Courtney draws inspiration for the business from her mother, Karen, who is a quilter and executive director of the Modern Quilt Guild, the non-profit organization that brought the world QuiltCon.
The pair believe that Festus Fabrics will be a hit due to the current lack of quality hand dyed fabric on the market. Not only that, but currently no fabric or textile company offers ice dyed fabrics en masse.
The couple say that the secret to their unique, one-of-a-kind designs is through the process of ice dyeing — a method which allows dye to slowly melt through the ice and contact the fabric. This creates the water color like effects and unique splashes of color unavailable with tie-dye, or vat-dye methods.

They plan on doing limited releases, additional color drops, and plan on offering their wares to retail stores soon.
